Application Process

Overlay installation system is usually a three day process:

Day 1: Prepare the existing surface.
Depending on the present surface, we will do the following:

On bare concrete we will pressure wash and properly clean bare concrete.
On spraydeck, bulmanite, keystone, existing overlays, stamped, or painted concrete, we usually use a grinding machine called a scarifier to remove such surfaces.
On riverrock, ½ inch pavers, or tile we use jack hammers to remove the surface.

After the surface has been removed, we open up any existing cracks (so that they will later become part of the entire stone design, thereby making such cracks 'disappear' into our patterned design), pressure wash, and properly clean the area. Then we trowel our bonding agent onto the surface. This will allow the new and the preexisting surface to properly adhere to each other.

Day 2: Application of surface.
Next, we mix the acrylics and the cements together. Once the mixture is ready, we hand trowel our cement onto the surface. Two to four hours later, once the concrete has hardened somewhat, we hand carve one of our designs that has been previously chosen onto the surface.

Day 3: Staining and Sealing.
On the third day, we hand stain each individual stone. Usually, we use three different colors but, at times, we may use more. When the surface is dry, we then antique wash the entire surface. When dry, we use one half inch brushes to paint the grout lines. Once the grout lines have dried, we then apply a sealer with slip resistant aggregate.

Notes:
You may walk on our surface the next day. However, if your surface is a driveway, you may drive on the surface five days after the initial application of the sealer.
